La La Land finally comes to the Lincoln's screen beginning Monday, March 27 at 7:30pm. La La Land made history in January, breaking the record for most Golden Globes won by a single film after winning all seven of the awards it was nominated for. Then the spectacular film was nominated for 14 Academy Awards, tying with All About Eve and Titanic for the most nominations of all time. On the day of the big show on February 26, it didn't break records for most Oscars won, but it did take home six including the best picture Oscar (for, like, 30 seconds.)
The story of Mia, an aspiring actress, and Sebastian, a dedicated jazz musician, struggling to make ends meet while pursuing their dreams in a city known for destroying hopes and breaking hearts. With modern day Los Angeles as the backdrop, this musical about everyday life explores what is more important: a once-in-a-lifetime love or the spotlight.
What the critics are saying:
Empire, Ian Freer
Audacious, retro, funny and heartfelt, La La Land is the latest great musical for people who don’t like musicals – and will slap a mile-wide smile across the most miserable of faces.
Total Film, Jamie Graham
Could have been a grand folly but instead it’s just grand. Will make audiences break into grins like its characters break into song.
The Globe and Mail, (Toronto) Barry Hertz
Utterly magnificent and intoxicating.
