encounters with the wild
verge on the surreal
even as everything connects
a single organism - this planet earth
still, when paths cross,
some sense of other-worldliness
not unlike the language of dreams
though even our dreams are terrestrial
whether they break our hearts
or lift us up beyond coughing traffic
noise of cities
they are born of earth
how could they not be?
& to not heed the intersection of all things
is to blithely jettison the ‘chute
when the plane is in tailspin -
an endless abandonment of these,
the “better angels of our nature”

Wading in creeks,
Frogs in my pockets
Mud between my toes
Climbing in trees
Twigs in my hair
My head in the clouds
Child outside
A deep appreciation of nature
an appreciation reflected

I bring forth these works
to surprise
and catch eyes
to our kinship
with the others.
I find comfort and courage
in subverting
the terror of human control.
